First Friday Tomorrow, March 7!!!

This First Friday we have a fantastic entertainment line-up coming to the Village Cafe! Beginning with Claire Domingue, our live music will begin at 6:00 PM, then continue with performances by the Broken Spokes and Adrienne Mack-Davis w/Taylor Zaro until close!! See below for more details about each artist.

Live Music:

Claire Domingue
6:00-8:00 PM

“A classical piano player since age 6, guitar player, singer and songwriter since 14, Claire has made her music her life. Spending her days teaching music lessons, she has a relationship with music unusual for her age. She has taken the stories of her life and those close to her to create personal and emotional songs rooted in multiple styles of folk. On her debut album, Someday You’ll Know, she uses her skills on guitar, piano, and mandolin with a no-frills band and occasional string accompaniment. Catch her live, and you’ll get the same passion and energy from the record.”

Broken Spokes
8:00-10:30 PM

“The Broken Spokes came together in Houston, Texas over the love of the long forgotten country music of yesterday and a dissatisfaction of where the music is today. Presenting these great songs as true to the day they were recorded, The Broken Spokes hope to fill the void in the “country music ” you may hear in bars and dance halls today. From the sad songs of Lefty to the ringing harmonies of Buck and Don, The Broken Spokes will take you back to a time to when you weren’t embarrassed to say you were a fan of country music.”

Adrienne Mack-Davis and Taylor Zaro
Beginning at 10:30 PM

This week at the Cafe

Come out and see Jessie Frye at 9pm this Friday, Sept 20th!
Jessie Frye has become something of a DFW institution since the release of her debut EP, The Delve, back in 2009. On the strength and reputation of that first collection of songs, she was invited to perform at SXSW that same year and began a round of extended touring with some local musicians whom she knew and had brought together to form a permanent band.

Garnering critic praise from regional press in Fort Worth and Dallas, her work on a follow-up release was quickly started. Fireworks Child, her second EP, was released in 2011, and Frye and her band continued to tour and build on her already considerable fan base, playing festivals and cities across the US. Having shared the stage with artists like Julianna Barwick and Joan As Police Woman (among dozens of others) – and played SXSW every year since 2009, along with repeat appearances at 35 Conferette in Denton – Frye has meticulously honed her gleaming, and at times densely packed, pop aesthetic. She and her band are primed to reach a much larger audience with the release of their debut LP, Obsidian, which is due out sometime later this fall and was funded via Kickstarter campaign.

The way in which the music effortlessly interweaves with her voice without overpowering or drowning out her intimate vocal complexities is a testament to the intuitive interplay between all members of the band. A compelling example of how synth-pop can expand and develop past its bloated mainstream inclinations, “White Heat” is equal parts inclusive campfire storytelling and rafter-reaching pomp. Expect to hear more from Jessie Frye very soon.”
-Joshua Pickard, Beats Per Minute

Jessie has supported artists such as Pat Benatar, Eric Hutchinson, Dana Falconberry, Katie Herzig, Juliana Barwick, Anais Mitchell and more. She has played many wonderful venues including House of Blues, The Mohawk, Stubbs, Kessler Theatre, Dan’s Silverleaf, SXSW, and 35 Denton. Jessie Frye will be on tour in the fall of 2013 in the support of her debut LP- Obsidian.

Jessie will be playing at The Village Cafe on Friday, September 20, at 9:00 PM. Cover charge will be just $3.00 per person, so come out and enjoy a fantastic performance!
