May First Friday at The Village

by Kristy Petty on May 5, 2010

Jenna Harbert, sophmore at Texas A&M will be our featured artist for the month of May.  Here is her artist statement:

My paint work is in acrylic, oil, collage, pastel, or marker. I love using my hands, creating a direct, cathartic experience.
Each work heavily reflects whatever music I am listening to. I’m inspired by the beauty and fundamentals of nature.
In my photographs, I focus primarily on motion, physics of nature, light, and color contrast. My vision is abstract, and impulsive, that invloves taking several hundred pictures each shoot.
My work is entirely intuitive stroke or thought, creating a visually aesthetic experience.

Sat is a huge day in local food growth in the Brazos Valley.
The Brazos Valley Farmers’ Market, in partnership with The Village and Go Texan, will show consumers how to transform fresh local veggies from the market into delicious meals, as part of the Market to Menu event Saturday.
The event ─ free and open to the public ─ will be held 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the farmers’ market on the corner of William J. Bryan Parkway and Texas Avenue and at The Village Cafe, 210 W. 26th Street in Downtown Bryan.
Rachel Fogle of The Village will kick off a Breakfast with the Farmers from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the market, offering cooking demonstrations and free omelette samples.
Fogle, who has worked in area kitchens for 10 years, will also serve a Locavore Lunch 1 p.m. at The Village Cafe, made from her finds at the farmers’ market. The lunch, available for a flat rate at the cafe, will be open to the general public.
Special guests Pam Walker, Brad Stufflebeam and Patrick Lillard will appear for a book signing at 10 a.m. to noon at the farmers market and at the 1 p.m. Locavore Lunch.
Walker will sign copies of her book, Growing Good Things to Eat in Texas: Profiles of Organic Farmers and Ranchers across the State (Texas A&M University Press, 2009) at both venues.
