November 2009 features the work of Nancy Elliott and Barbara Gholson
Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Nancy Elliott has lived at various locations in the U.S. mostly in an attempt to follow her husband’s career aspirations. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Visual Art from Auburn University, raising two daughters and an eleven year stint teaching art to middle school students, Nancy relocated to College Station and is now pursuing a career in painting and decorating.
She is currently working on a “travel series” in acrylic and mixed media. Pursuing a visual representation of her experience in various cities and places she uses painting, block printing, stenciling, drawing and collage to capture the sights, textures, colors, and feelings of each place. She attempts to engage the viewer in an experience of each location in both a public and personal way.
Barbara Gholson has lived in College Station with her husband, Tom, for the last 8 years. She studied art at Texas Christian University and more recently under Dimtri Koustov here locally. Barbara’s focus is impressionist style and is known for her use of color and the softness she brings to each painting.
She enjoys painting landscapes, especially plain air work. Barbara is displaying in three different galleries across Texas; The Gallery at Lajitas, The Holland St. Gallery in Bellville, and Greasewood Gallery in Marfa. She is a member of the Brazos Valley Art League and the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley. She has a piece in the ACBV’s permanent collection at the Arts Center.
